    To develop assessment tools that can evaluate in detail the implementation status of measures for passive smoking prevention in restaurants, so that restaurant users who do not desire passive smoking can choose their restaurants with confidence, consideration has been given towards the creation of evaluation tables, usability, possibility of evaluation based on online questionnaires, display methods of the implementation status of passive smoking prevention measures.
    As a result of the field survey and the interview survey, the following assessment items have been identified: 4 items related to <ashtray and cigarette vending machines>, 11 items related to <tobacco odor and air flow>, 9 items related to <smoke separation methods>, and 4 items related to <in-store structure>. Moreover, it was suggested that evaluation on the Web is possible based on the questionnaire survey targeting 927 restaurant managers.

    We examined a preventive measure for multiple chemical sensitivity (MCS) since sensitivity for chemical substances increasingly becomes a major concern among high school students. We conducted anonymous survey for 390 high school students and 10 nursing teachers or health coordinators from 10 high schools in Gunma prefecture. Due to MCS educational poster, 30% of the subjects (117 subjects) showed their interest in “Discharge unwanted substances from a body”. In addition, 7.4% (29 subjects) of the total belonged to a MCS high risk group, but there was no relation between the group and interest level for MCS educational poster contents or each MCS preventive method. If a person has a symptom such as allergic symptom or cold hands and feet, it tends to significantly generate more interest to each preventive method; therefore, it is considered that providing an instruction/support by such symptomatic feature would be a key for MCS education.

    4,630 students from 21 high schools in Gunma Prefecture participated in a written questionnaire (80.2% valid responses). 415 respondents (8.9%) met all three of the conditions for the Quick Environmental Exposure and Sensitivity Inventory (QEESI) screening for multiple chemical sensitivity: a Chemical Intolerance Score of>=40, a Symptom Severity Score of >=20 and a Life Impact Score of >=10. These respondents were designated as the high-risk group, with the others designated as the control group. Upon examining factors relating to multiple chemical sensitivity with these two groups, it was determined that the occurrence of multiple chemical sensitivity is linked to females, persons with atopic dermatitis, persons with metal allergies, persons whose hands and feet are sensitive to cold, persons who tire easily, persons who have lived in a newly constructed building, persons who are sensitive to odors and persons who notice that they often feel stressed.

    Six 40's female multiple chemical sensitivity patients of seven respondents introduced by NPO were all housewives except one. 83% of them has allergy, all of them has headache and heavy head feeling, three of them has problems on dormition and all of them were in exposure of phosphorus compound. The results of air quality analysis by active method shows that, in those respondent's house which TVOC fell below to 400μg/m^3, only 2 respondents were under 50μg/m^3 and 138μg/m^3, the others were between 517 to 4260μg/m^3. Even the respondents lived with chemical materials kept away, the case of MCS was still ongoing. Additionally, the TVOC value of outside of the house in some housing areas shows 1110μg/m^3 which was twice higher than that of inside, where the air infiltration is impossible and people cannot be encouraged to move out because of the financial problem. The educational campaign for multiple chemical sensitivity as a health direction is necessary which including the air adjustment at inside and outside of the house by using air quality analysis and a revision of the life surrounded by overmuch chemical materials.
